Mission San Francisco De Solano (The Missions of California)
Published in Library Binding by Powerkids Pr (January, 2001)
Author: Allison Stark Draper
Average review score:

very helpful
My son used this book to help him write his fourth grade "Mission Report". It was very helpful to have so many facts about this particular mission in one place. The photos, sketches and maps also help to paint an interesting picture of mission life in the 1800's. The last chapter about making a mission model was very useful and gave him some very concrete ideas about how to go about it.

Modes of Therapeutic Action: Enhancement of Knowledge, Provision of Experience, and Engagement in Relationship
Published in Paperback by Jason Aronson (December, 2000)
Author: Martha Stark
Average review score:

Another insightful, useful book from Martha Stark
Modes of Theraputic Action continues the train of thought Dr. Stark began in her previous book Working with Resistance. While professional therapists are the target audience for the book I found much here to deepen my understanding of the theraputic process as a client. The clinical vingettes Dr. Stark has chosen to share are particularly helpful. Dr. Stark's writing style is clear, concise and deeply thoughtful. A marvelous book that will give you new insights into the theraputic process.

Never Say Stark Naked: A Novel
Published in Hardcover by Welcome Rain (June, 2002)
Author: Marjory Bassett
Average review score:

First Novel a Winner
I was completely charmed by Marjory Bassettt's "Never Say Stark Naked." In fact, I couldn't put it down. The spunky Phoebe Stanhope, whose life takes a fascinating turn when she leaves her native Kansas for New York, is a heroine anyone could love. And the cast of characters she meets there--daft English aristocrats, like Sir Chatham Wiggins who wears his collection of watches all up and down his arms; the imperious Selmabelle Flaunton, a P.R. doyenne for whom Phoebe works; the brothers Bradley--softspoken Gilbert, an artist who reminded me of Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, and his weak but seductive brother Lawrence; Jane, Selmabelle's spoiled niece; and the spunky Jill, who shares her apartment with Phoebe. All, including the "nice" characters, have their foibles, but Ms. Bassett manages to present them with sympathy as well as humor. The "country girl goes to the city" is a theme that's been done before, but rarely with such originality and wit. The dialogue virtually sparkles. The cover says that this is Ms. Bassett's first novel. Let's hope there will be more.

Nymphs of North American Stonefly Genera (Plecoptera)
Published in Paperback by University of North Texas Press (August, 1993)
Authors: Kenneth W. Stewart, Bill P. Stark, and Jean A. Stanger
Average review score:

The definitive work on stonefly nymphs.
If you know to look for this book, you probably already know that it is the definitive reference on stonefly nymphs. This is not for the casual reader: if you are not an entomologist, you will find it difficult but rewarding reading. For the flyfisher, the introductory chapters are an excellent introduction to plecoptera, once you want to go beyond Swisher and Richards, or Leiser and Boyle. I have had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stewart, stay at his home, and collect with him. His graciousness is as great as his knowledge. A revision is in the works.

What a wonderful book!
What a wonderful book by Ken Stark!!! This is a great story about two brothers growing up in small town Illinois in the 1950's. It is about a simpler life than we all lead now and that is so refreshing! The illustrations are a wonder! Just gorgeous! The themes of friendship and brotherly love are so comforting! Get this book!!

Peacemaker Bounty
If you have yet to read any of these books, you should hesitate no further. This is an absolute great series of books by Mr. Blair. Jim and Prudence will stick in your heart and will make you remember how it first felt to be in love. They are great. The action is wonderful, the banter if fun! This is a two thumbs up book!!

Phase-Transfer Catalysis: Fundamentals, Applications, and Industrial Perspectives
Published in Hardcover by Kluwer Academic Publishers (15 January, 1994)
Authors: Charles M. Starks, Charles L. Liotta, and Marc Halpern
Average review score:

Authoritative and comprehensive.
Covers the subject very well. However: There is repetition throughout the book indicating that the three authors didn't coordinate their contributions. The chapters are unsigned. Graphics are sometimes of poor quality, especially toward the end. Many spelling and typo errors. Equation 7-1 is missing and in its place there was left a note to the author reminding him to insert it. The book was obviously not proofread or edited. Being a stickler for perfect spelling and appearance, I found these problems distracting.

A Primer on Working With Resistance
Published in Paperback by Jason Aronson (April, 1995)
Author: Martha, M.D. Stark
Average review score:

A clear, consise explanation of the theraputic relationship
Dr. Stark weaves together the viewpoints of many different schools of theraputic thought while bringing her own facinating insights to bear in this wonderful book. Other authors in this field could take a lesson from the clarity of her prose. The best book I have ever read on the subject. Anyone seeking to better understand the theraputic relationship should read this book.
